Blackstripe had to force herself up out of a comfy sleep in her nest and out to do some work. The day was cold and damp. A light drizzle of rain hit the ground repetedly. Blackstripe found the day quite unagreeable, as days like this tended to make her moody. She preferred a light, warm day with a light, cool wind and an air of coolness to mask the heat. Today was no such day.
Blackstripe was debating on whether or not she wanted to join the morning patrol, but it didn't look as though someone had organized one, so Blackstripe assumed that she should go hunting. Blackstripe could hunt, but she preffered not to do so in the rain. Prey was always more alert, and less of it wandered around. Still, there were kits and elders to be fed who couldn't fend for themselves, and a whole 3/4 of the clan probuably wasn't going out today. That made this an ideal time for her to go out.
Blackstripe would have preferred a hunting partner, but no one had caught her eye as she had wandered through the camp and ate a tiny mouse, the smallest things she could find to save food for otherd, and then groomed herself. Blackstripe headed past the exit and debated where to go. She decided on the Adder rocks. They weren't the safest place in the world, but Blackstripe didn't mind a spot of danger, and prey was often spotted wondering around their, so Blackstripe decided to give it a try.
Blackstripe was careful not to walk to quickly as she padded through the damp forest and scanned the adder rocks for any moving prey. She spotted a scrawny mouse wedged between to rocks that was creeping its way out. She ducked behind a rock before it could see her and put herself into a hunters crouch. It wasn't her best position ever, but it would have to do, as the mouse was almost in pouncing distance and Blackstripe couldn't affort to move and scare it off.
The mouse was accompanied by a much juicier looking friend. The friend had much more weight in him and had a lot of meat on his bones. It looked like a proper meal that she would hand deliver to the nursury. When the mouse was a fox tail's length in front of her and still hadn't detected her presence, she sensed it wasn't the brightest of all mice, she leaped and sunk her claws in it in one swift movement. The other mouse, the original scrawny one hurried to get away and jumped in a crevice between the rocks.
Taking the mouse in her jaws, Blackstripe buried her prey and sunk back into the rocks where she would hopefully find the second mouse or some other prey to go after. Blackstripe intended to go back to camp with jaws full of prey, not just one mouse, even if it would make a good meal.
